Mathew Mannweller is Professor of Political Science at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. Before teaching at Central Washington, Matt taught at the Univeristies of Oregon and Montana.
Prior to earning his PhD from the University of Oregon, Matt taught high school social studies.He is author of The People Versus the Courts: Judicial Review and Direct Democracy in the American Legal System. This book explores the institutional conflict between direct democracy activists and state and federal courts. It argues that state ballot measures suffer and significantly higher rate of judicial invalidation because the “rules of the game” are different for legislators than they are for direct democracy activists; and, that the unique political culture surrounding direct democracy activists contributes to the adoption of destructive political and legal strategies.
Matt is also the author of many papers and articles as well as a sought-after speaker at regional panels and conferences.
