Ken Mortland is a retired teacher, having worked for 37 years in the Northshore School District. He taught Sp Ed, English, Reading, and Social Studies classes and served as social studies dept head for three years. He served on a number of district curriculum, planning, and interview committees and was once nominated for teacher of the year. His classes in civics and Washington state history have sponsored many bipartisan candidate forums and have heard from legislators of both parties. He also started the International Fair at Northshore Junior High.

During most of those years, Ken was an active member of the Northshore Education Association, serving as a building representative, executive committee members, and vice president.

He has been active in the Washington Education Association, serving on the PULSE Board, the Association of Classroom Teachers’ Board, the Instruction and Professional Development Commission, and the Benefits & Services Advisory Board. He attended more than 25 Representative Assemblies as a delegate or as the RA’s Rules Chairperson. He also helped found the WEA Republican Teachers’ Caucus. Ken has attended many NEA Representative Assemblies and is a charter member of the NEA Republican Leadership Conference.

Ken is a life long Republican, having learned from his grandmother, the wife of a small businessman in Yakima. He’s been active in Mainstream Republicans of Washington for about 20 years and is currently 2nd Vice Chair and the board member in charge of planning the annual Cascade Conference.

Ken lives in Bothell with his wife of 43 years, Linda. They have one daughter, Kenda, who is a UW grad and lives in Kenmore.
